Drilling Rig Construction
Our client had determined that development of their field in the Caspian Sea required construction and installation of 4 production platforms, each of which would be fitted with 5th generation automated drilling facilities. Our client experienced significant cost increases in construction and commissioning of the drilling facilities.
Review
We conducted independent project audits on its project teams and key contractors engaged in the construction of four drilling facilities. The teams and contractors were located in London, the Netherlands and Baku Azerbaijan.
Deepwater Drilling Rig
In developing a deepwater field offshore Angola, our client had chartered a deepwater drilling unit and had called for extensive upgrades to be performed on the drilling unit in Brazil before moving onto the drilling location.
Audit & Monitor
We periodically audited and monitored the progress of the upgrades throughout the shipyard phase of the project.
Platform Refurbishment
Our client had begun a reactivation program on one of its drilling facilities in the UK, North Sea.
Audit & Monitor
We implemented on an ongoing basis independent audits of the project, project suppliers, manufacturers, and key contractors.
Drilling Rig Delivery
In developing a deepwater field off the coast of Nigeria, our client had chartered a deepwater drilling rig, which required extensive upgrading in Las Palmas before moving onto the drilling location.
Risk Profile & Analysis
We performed an independent assessment of when the rig would arrive on location following the upgrades. To determine the most probable arrival date, a full review and quantitative risk analysis of the drilling contractor's approach and management of the project was conducted.
Production Platform Upgrade
Our client planned to upgrade its drilling facilities on one of its platforms in the North Sea.
Risk Profile & Analysis
We assessed the project to minimise downtime of the facilities and also, utilising quantitative risk analysis provided a probabilistic delivery date for the project.
Production Platform Upgrade
Our client planned to conduct upgrades to one of its platforms on the UK Continental Shelf, North Sea, to enable the use of Through Tubing Rotary Drilling (TTRD) methods.
Risk Profile & Analysis
We verified whether the project could be successfully completed within the proposed timescale. We conducted a qualitative and quantitative project risk review, which identified significant risks to an on-time completion, as well as technical issues impacting the schedule that had not been addressed by the FEED study.
Drilling Rig Delivery
In developing a deepwater field offshore Angola, our client had chartered a deepwater drilling rig and had called for extensive upgrades to the drilling unit to be performed in Brazil prior to moving onto the drilling location.
Risk Profile & Analysis
We conducted an independent assessment of when the rig would arrive on location. A full review and quantitative risk analysis of the drilling contractor's approach and management of the project was conducted. The outcome was that the arrival date would, in all probability, be 3 weeks later than scheduled unless risk mitigation and contingency plans were implemented.
Production Platform Reactivation
Our client was about to embark on a project to reactivate the drilling facilities on one of its North Sea production platforms. The project management had been contracted on an EPC basis to a specialist engineering and construction contractor.
Risk Profile & Analysis
We conducted a full qualitative and quantitative risk review of the contractors project approach, proposed budget and schedule. During the review it was determined that the project could be executed within a much reduced time frame and budget allocation.
Production Platform Construction
In connection with development of a field west of the Shetlands on the UK Continental Shelf, the proposed production platform facilities included a 5th-generation drilling rig. The project schedule had extended, and our client sought an independent assessment of when "first oil" could be produced from the platform.
Risk Profile & Analysis
We conducted an evaluation of the project with particular attention to the strategy and approach to the drilling facilities commissioning. Our teams forecast that "first oil" would be produced 3 months later than planned unless mitigation and management of the risks was implemented.
Upgrade of Platform Drilling Facilities
Our client was considering whether to undertake an under balanced drilling program using crude oil as the drilling fluid. This method would require an upgrade to the drilling facilities on our client's platform.
Feasibility Investigation
We performed independent, technical and cost-benefit evaluations of whether the proposed upgrades would meet the technical, safety, environmental, and operational parameters of the client, based on project definition studies by our client's drilling contractor.
Production Platform Upgrade
Our client wanted to upgrade a production platform, its recent purchase. The planned upgrades included modernising the drilling facilities to allow extended-reach directional drilling operations.
Feasibility Investigation
We conducted an independent investigation into feasibility, costing and potential consequences of the project based on conceptual design studies by our client's drilling contractor.
Upgrade of Platform Drilling Facilities
Prior to starting a new drilling program, our client planned to upgrade and modernise the drilling facilities on one of its platforms in an effort to eliminate historical equipment downtime.
Feasibility Investigation
We performed independent technical and cost-benefit evaluations of whether the proposed upgrades would add the expected value to drilling operations.
Construction of Platform Drilling Facilities
Our client had determined that development of its field in the Caspian Sea required construction and installation of 4 production platforms, each of which would be fitted with 5th-generation automated drilling facilities. Our client had experienced significant cost increases in construction and commissioning of the drilling facilities.
Knowledge Capture & Transfer
We performed independent project audits on project teams and key contractors during the project execution phase; provided a baseline from which adjustments could be made to the initial approach to reduce the cost overruns; and performed an independent "lessons learned" review of the early and ongoing construction strategy.
Upgrade of MODU for Field Development
In developing a deepwater field offshore Angola, our client had chartered a deepwater drilling unit and had called for extensive upgrades to the drilling unit to be performed in Brazil prior to moving onto the drilling location.
Knowledge Capture & Transfer
Before this specific engagement and during the planning phase, we had performed a Delivery Risk Review , as well as on-going monitoring and performance audits. During the latter stage of the project, we captured the lessons learned on the project.
Field Evaluation
Our client was conducting early field development studies for licences in the Niger Delta and wanted an independent view of their geological data and resource estimates.
Early Field Development
We provided evaluation of hydrocarbon potential, geological data analysis, and project advisory services.
